I leaked a little oil today. It dripped on my headers very close to the oil filter, and burned.
It dripped only about 3-4 drops. The bike has been sitting in garage for 3 days. Weather was kinda coldish at night (around 44 degrees). I started it up and rode it without letting it warm up.
My guess is that the gasket shrank when it was cold, and than didnt have time to expand in time when i reved the engine.
Maybe i'm wrong, but i tightened the oil filter a little bit (about 1/6 of a turn), but haven't ridden it since (im at work).
Any thoughts why it leaked? How to fix? what to look for?Leaked a little bit of oil today. Why?
Tighten all your bolts !Leaked a little bit of oil today. Why?
hmmm. first step id do if it continues is change the oil and filter, check all your connections. my guess is the weather and the lack of a proper warm up are not the cause.. maybe on an older bike but not the newer CBR's.
Start there. Id recommend stopping by a shop and asking the service department if they will take a look.
Remove the fuel tank and air box to get a closer look at the valve cover.
The rubber gasket doesn't last forever.
Also check the gaskets for the 2 reed covers.
Tighten the valve cover bolts while your in there.
';Without letting it warm up'; is your problem. Seriously. My car's engine light went on one cool morning; i figured i could forget the usual ';5 min let the idle die down'; warmup.
Especially with higher mileage like that.
Impossible. Only Harley's leak oil. Honda's are perfect machines.
Need to know make Modelyear of bike that is common in older bikes
Specify make/model/year of bike. Type/weight of oil used and last oil change would be helpful, type of filter. You sort of imply the oil came from filter base area- but maybe not? If a little leak from filter- possible last time filter changed-if external can type- the base had some crud or bit of old filter left in as new filter installed, gasket with lumpy face surface would bribble. maybe old gasket left on engine and new filter gasket applied over it? Perhaps filter has a pinch in mounting base from tight band wrench or slight seam seperation. Or crack in engine case- clean and check..
