In the order of best to good





(1) synthetic


(2) blend


(3) conventional / regular





In my opinion, blend does NOT make sense. Synthetic oil are just motor oil but much more pure. But what do you get pure + impure? That is correct, impure (or just slightly purer conventional). The problem with conventional oil is the impurity.

Synthetic oil = motor oil. They are not some substitue. There's no reason to think that OLD CARS cannot take synthetic. Anytime conventional oils can be used synthetic oil can be used. This is on Valvoline website.

For full synthetic I like Mobil1 for turbo engines, and Valvolines for non-turbo engines (as they don't need the extra protection of Mobil1).





As for conventional, I like castrol oil.





that is NOT to say they are the best. I am just saying they seem to be GOOD ENOUGH.

The best kind is that which is changed regularly. Dont put in synthetic and decide to go a year between changes. Synthetic is the best but regular changes is even more important.
