Nothing.
Bush is just that kind of President - doesn't address a problem until it becomes a crisis, and then blames everyone else for it.Bush today lashed out at Congress for not opening Alaska for oil development?
well i remember that when he came to power in jan 20 2001, the price of a gallon of gas in a gas station was about 62 cents. What is the price today?, 1.25 dollars per gallon. So since he has being in power, the only thing that have happened since he came in to power are raising gas prices as simple as that, the prices keep going higher and higher. It is speculated than in 3 to 4 years the price will double to about 2.30 dollars per gallon, great job Mr.Bush.
Also the instability of the American dollar compare to others like the Canadian dollar for example (Monetary Policy). The Iraq war and the huge Market Failure of over expenditure in the Military (Iraq war, fiscal policy). Have created a lot of distrust for the dollar. Over expectulation however of hedge funds and banks have created the greatest contribution to the rising prices.
Current monetary policy, expanding national deficits, the war in Iraq, and the collapse of the securitized debt market are all factors that lead to the current speculation in commodities that is fueling high prices for commodities (including oil) at this time (the market funds have been hot for years now, but now it's insanely over-speculated as investors chasing higher returns have piled on because they have few opportunities for high returns in other areas).
Knowing that, this administration has done nothing but contribute to the problem, and he is even still proposing that Fannie Mae securitize their debt pretty much like banks and mortgage companies did, and this is what lead to overspeculation in that market.
He's hoping you are a bigger idiot than he is.
Thats funny.....since 57% of federal land leases with oil reserves are open for unlimited drilling and aren't being touched, and an additional ~25% are open for limited drilling.
Maybe they should focus on those first before asking for more.
Why do we let the oil companies act like children all the time? They have a box full of cookies waiting in the pantry and they are wanting to go out and buy more.........and now Bush is whining for them.
He cut off Iraqi oil from the world. He threatened Iran and Venezuella and destabilized the Middle-East. He blocked conservation efforts and higher fuel economy. He destroyed the value of the dollar. He refused to release oil from the strategic reserve.
Oh wait, you asked what he had done to LOWER energy prices.
We have been drilling and pumping oil up here in Alaska since 1977. The wildlife are just fine with the pipeline.
Keep in mind that both George Bush's are oil men. Bush Senior NEVER once came up to visit Alaska during the biggest oil spill in history. Price of gas today in Palmer,AK was $3.80/gal. We don't have enough oil to satisfy the needs and wants of the USA.
He is obviously distracted by his daughters wedding.
BP and Royal Dutch Shell bought drilling leases from the Dept of Interior to drill in ANWR in August of 2006 They are up there right now (today) drilling and pumping like crazy.
Bush must have forgot.
opening alaska for Drilling will NOT bring the prices down, contrary to popular belief.
however releasing the reserves will.
What, specifically, should he have done to alleviate rising energy prices? It's traded publicly.
Another one of Bushes stellar ideas. Opening Alaska will not help.
Hellooooooo ~ our president has appropriated more money than any president for alternate sources of fuel. I reckon you don't understand that rising prices are actually a way to get consumers to conserve since we are running out of fossil fuel. By the way, do you go the speed limit in order to conserve gas?
After the 911 attacks, Bush worked with the REPUBLICAN CONGRESS to help lower gas prices to below $1.50 a gallon. (see link). Maybe the new democratic congress has something to do with it now? http://zfacts.com/p/35.html
