Jail for manipulating the market?$100 dollar oil today was a fraud. A trader bought shares at a loss, just to post $100 oil. Why isn't he in
Um, if he just committed a crime maybe there's some formality that needs to happen...like a trial, perhaps?$100 dollar oil today was a fraud. A trader bought shares at a loss, just to post $100 oil. Why isn't he in
So what? It was around $99.50 all day. Is 1/2 of 1 % pop for 1 trade a big deal? I don't think so.

If it's intended to go over $100 in 2008 it will if not it won't. This 1 trade today does nothing for the price of oil in the long run.

Want someone to go to jail? How about the White House's decision to let the US Dollar fall in the world currency market causing the price of oil to increase by the % of US dollar decline?????
Your allegation doesn't even make sense. How is losing money on an oil contract ';manipulating the market';? Exactly how does one buy shares at a loss just to push a price higher?

The only way to lose money is to buy higher and sell lower. You don't buy at 99, push the price to 100, and lose money. The only way to have done that would be to buy at 99, push the price over 100, and then hang onto it too long while other traders drive the price back down. That isn't illegal. It's just misjudging the market and making a bad trade.

I never cease to be amazed by the number of people who believe that $100 oil is inherently illegal and must be the result of some conspiracy or illegal activity. After all, it can't possibly be caused by Americans who consume far too much energy by driving Hummers and building 3,000 square foot homes.
ummm...

i'm just gonna assume what you say is true for the sake of discussion......

If you;re gonna manipulate a market shouldn't it be for a profit???

and if it's not... thats a crime? feel free to manipulate the market for a loss all day.. just let me know ahead of time so i can be on the other side of that trade.
Because what you are writing may not be true.
You can't trade $100 if the market is offer for sale lower than that, thus he didn't manipulate the market, he simply posted a price by buying at the offer.

This one print isn't going to make the market ';rocket higher';.
