White smoke is an indicator that you may have a blown head gasket.

Do you smell anti -freeze inside the car?I have a 97 ford contour, and today I put oil in the car and now it stalls and I have white smoke coming out?
You overfilled the car with too much oil, check your level and drain it out to the correct level. You might need to change the spark plugs, you may have fouled them out, thats why your car rattles when it runs.
Could have bent a valve my neighbors contour had the same problems as yours and that what it ended up being.
grey white smoke is usually a sign of coolant entering the combustion chamber.....probably a head gasket. the coolant will be causing one of the sparkplugs to not fire, thats why it runs rough and stalls. pull each plug out one at a time. one of them is gonna be real clean. open the oil cap, is the oil frothy?
Did you put in to much? That's what it sounds like to me.
