Is there any alternate energy which can power vehicles that is ready to take oils place today?

Not really.

The two technologies I would consider as the most promising would be natural gas fuel cells and electricity.

However both of these have their own drawbacks. For example - battery technology is an inefficient use of energy and it is getting harder and harder to squeeze more energy into the same weight/volume of a battery and ensure that you are not accidentally making something that can explode like a bomb if damaged. Is there any alternate energy which can power vehicles that is ready to take oils place today?
Hydrogen Fuel Cells are ready. Honda is making about a dozen available for lease in California this year. These cars solve the problem with our dependency on oil along with being good for the environment. We should start to see other company's producing this type of vehicle soon as well as filling stations that can refill you Fuel Cell within the next few years. I the mean time we should still look to drill in our own back yard and tap the vast resource that we have in order to gain our independence from OPEC and the other oil producing countries. Is there any alternate energy which can power vehicles that is ready to take oils place today?
biofuels , hybrids, hydrogen

comment, smart bio fuels - not from corn, but from sugarcane and alike.

bio-disel coupled with hybrid can solve many problems.

Honda just came out with hydrogen model.

there are other technologies like ';growing'; oil bacteria, solar, electric, more effective hydrogen. etc
My favorite is a wind-up car. Before you LOL, a spring smaller and lighter than a gasoline engine can store a ton of energy. It could be wound up at night with an electric motor or even a windmill.
There's the Tesla out right now, which is rather pricey, but it's electric and hits 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds.
Sure, but SLOWLY. You can just change the entire infrastructure of an economy overnight. We need to drill NOW and we need to keep working on alternatives.
The Japanese are already rolling out their hydorgen fuel cell vehicles. They're kicking everybody's a**.
Yes liberals can reuse/recycle their KY jelly from their butt pirating expeditions. It is petroleum based.
Not that I am fully aware of, but by the time drilling on our coasts will take effect that we see, there will be.
Water. They fracture the H2O molecule and use the Hydrogen for fuel. Seen the new car in Japan?
No. There isn't.
yes...oil.
