What's up with the media ';spinning'; today's news of oil prices dropping?

So yesterday Bush lifts the exectutive ban on off-shore drilling, and before you Democrats go getting your panties in a wad, he readily admits that this won't help in the short term much. He said ';it's not going to produce a drop pf oil tomorrow.'; But it does make OPEC and the oil speculators think twice about what the future might hold.

Yet maybe it did.....today oil prices fell $10 a barrel. Yet the media wants to ';credit'; the fall in price to the bad economy. But isn't that what they were ';blaming'; for the rise in oil prices in the first place?

Why can't the media be objective and not always find a way to be negative? What's up with the media ';spinning'; today's news of oil prices dropping?
Just wait till after the Olympics. It will be interesting to see what they blame/credit for oil dropping 60-80 dollars a barrel. People can't seem to grasp that with the extreme demand that China is now putting on supplies that prices are going to go up.

What's really funny is you can tell which Americans have never left these shores. They are the ones screaming about paying prices than many nations have been paying for decades.

I don't think journalism even teaches objectivity anymore. Now they pander to one side or another because advertisers tend to do just that. Advertising and opinion have supplanted; reason, honesty and integrity in journalism. What's up with the media ';spinning'; today's news of oil prices dropping?
That's what the media does. In their minds, ratings drop when there's good news, and rating rise when they news is bad. Why do you think we don't hear anything about Iraq anymore?
Good point.

Just like ';Global Cooling'; 20+ years ago lead to ';Global Warming'; now.
It's not even plausible spin.

If our economy is tanking enough to affect oil prices, that would mean that people overseas (the sellers of oil) don't even want our dollars anymore. They'd want MORE of them.

There is simply no way that fears of a weak US Economy by itself would lower oil prices. It would do just the opposite.

Now, if they said that because of fears of causing problems to the US Economy that OPEC was boosting production, that's plausible, as the increased Supply would push prices lower.

If you wil read the news and assume that the writer doesn't know what they are talking about, the ';spin'; and ';opinion'; will be much easier to spot. You'll know what to think critically about, and verify from other sources. If you make that assumption, you'll prove yourself correct about eighty per cent of the time.
Well, Bush may have said something that seems to make sense. What's for sure is, while OPEC and whoever are thinking, we are drowning in the fact they know they are in charge of us NOW.

As much as I don't like giving the media any credit, they are right both times. The volatile price of oil is swinging our economy no doubt about it. The up price of gas has a domino affect on nearly everything else. Guess the best we can do is try to still be here and still have something left when the ocean turns black with oil.
