When they say that the price of a barrel of oil went up $2 today, is that today' price or a future price?

I believe that is today's price, but the price won't go up at the pumps until they receive a new shipment of gasoline. When they say that the price of a barrel of oil went up $2 today, is that today' price or a future price?
It depends on if they stated ';futures'; or crude most likely on futures. When they say that the price of a barrel of oil went up $2 today, is that today' price or a future price?
if the price per barrel went up today, it's talking about the average cost to buy a barrel of oil, and yes it would have already happened that day. It will most likely affect gas prices in the near future.
