99 dodge neon has been leaking oil. Lifters have been tapping-today the tapping sound became ULTRA LOUD.?

Am I about to blow a rod in the engine? It sounds much like a chevy cavalier I had years ago that DID blow a rod but it left me on the side of the road in a cloud of smoke and fluids leaking from the block...Is my neon still repairable and what about costs? Will it be hard core expensive?99 dodge neon has been leaking oil. Lifters have been tapping-today the tapping sound became ULTRA LOUD.?
The sound you mention is most definitely from a lack of oil....need to fix this first. Neon's oil leaks are usually the head gasket or the cam shaft sensor bolted to the rear of the head.

I would get the leak fixed and maybe the noise will cease, unless of course major damage has already occurred in which you are looking at a huge repair bill. Good luck99 dodge neon has been leaking oil. Lifters have been tapping-today the tapping sound became ULTRA LOUD.?
Yes; from what your describing; especially if the sound is really loud that its a very real possibility that your going to blow a rod or worse. Id see if you can put oil in it and see if it quiets down and be sure to keep oil in it and fix the leak.

If not your looking at installing another engine which may cost more than the car is worth and you may be better off buying a better car.
sounds like it to me, why don't you fix the leak? At least keep it full of oil or it's just a matter of time........
put some oil in it make sure it quiets down if yes its fixable if no buy a new car
